What are the different types of oolong tea? Oolong tea is a semi-fermented tea that lies between green and black tea. Regular consumption of this tea can invigorate the mind, enhance beauty, and aid in weight loss. As the homeland of tea, our country has a long history of tea drinking, dating back to ancient times. Therefore, there is a vast variety of teas, including many types of oolong tea. Today, we will briefly introduce some of the most famous oolong teas:
1. [Wuyi Rock Tea] Originating from Wuyi Mountain in Fujian, Wuyi Rock Tea has a plump and uniform appearance, tightly rolled, with a glossy color and a frog-like shape on the back of the leaves. The color is a mix of green, sand green, and yellow dense, with the leaf base and edge being vermilion or spotted with red, and the center being light green. When brewed, this tea has a rich aroma, a thick and mellow taste, a fresh and smooth aftertaste, and a unique ‘rock rhyme’.
2. [Phoenix Dancong Tea] Produced in Guangdong, this tea is robust and tightly curled, with a light yellow leaf color tinged with a hint of green. The tea liquid is yellow and bright with a green undertone, with a clear and long-lasting aroma. Even after multiple infusions, the fragrance remains, and the sweetness lingers.
3. [Taiwan Oolong Tea] The tea leaves are curled and copper-brown in color. The tea liquid is orange-red, with a pure taste and a naturally intense fruity aroma. After brewing, the leaves have red edges and green centers, with the ‘Frozen Peak’ oolong from Nantou County being the most valuable.
4. [Tieguanyin Tea] Grown in Anxi, Southern Fujian, ‘Tieguanyin’ is both the name of the tea and the tea plant variety. The tea has a tightly knotted appearance, some resembling a scale hook, others like a dragonfly head. Due to the evaporation of caffeine with water, a layer of white frost forms on the surface, known as ‘frosty sand green’. When brewed, this tea emits a unique fragrance. Sipped while hot, it fills the mouth with aroma, and the aftertaste is sweet, with a lingering fragrance even after seven infusions.
After brewing oolong tea with boiling water, one can immediately sense the aromatic fragrance. Taking a small sip leaves a lasting impression on the palate with a long-lasting aftertaste. Oolong tea also has beautifying and slimming effects, making it a suitable choice for women to drink regularly. However, due to its stimulating properties, it is best not to consume it in the evening to avoid causing insomnia.
